Relatives meet

Kari Mahle and Hermod H. Monsen have both roots from Roalkvam in Suldal. Here Hermod is together with Kari and her husband Kåre (Cory).

Jill Schramm, Staff Writer in Minot Daily News, writes about Kari and Cory:

"Kari Mahle of Glenburn, who has attended every Høstfest, remembers the years when she and her husband, Cory, hosted a room where people could come to visit in the Norwegian language. Later, the Mahles became involved in the annual bunad fashion show.

The opportunity to meet and visit with people from Norway is one of the best parts of Høstfest, Mahle said. "That's always exciting for us", she said. "We can talk Norwegian to them. It's like a big reunion".

Over the years, the Mahles were able to have breakfast with Princess Astrid, host a Norwegian broadcasting crew at their farm and see their granddaughter crowned Høstfest Princess and grandson crowned Høstfest King.

Mahle remembers one year when a group from Telemark was to come out to their farm after the Høstfest. The day the event ended, a major storm developed. "They never made it out. They got to see what a North Dakota snowstorm was like instead", she said. "I do not know if anybody even got to leave Minot as they planned".

--- But on October 5, 2008 the weather was nice and sunny, and Kari came to Minot International Airport to say goodbye to her relative Hermod. Thank you, Kari !
