The Skimaker from Morgedal

Like other Telemark men, Sondre Norheim made skis and sold them at competitions. His innovative design was adapted from that of the shorter, traditional Telemark mountain skis, which were made of pine, narrow in the middle ,and wider in front with longer tips "rather like a swan neck". To hold the foot more securely on the ski, for both downhill travel and jumping, Norheim developed a simple, but effective birch withy fastened from the toe band around the heel.
